Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications do I need to apply for this teaching post in Namibia?
You typically need a recognized teaching qualification such as a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or a diploma in education, with specialization in English and Social Studies for the senior primary phase. Registration with the Namibian National Council for Higher Education or relevant teaching council is usually required.
What are the common day-to-day responsibilities for a Grade 4–7 Social Studies and English teacher?
You will prepare and deliver lessons in both subjects, mark learners' work, and maintain accurate progress records. You are also expected to manage classroom discipline, communicate with parents, and participate in staff meetings and extracurricular duties.
What is the local work culture and expectations for teachers in Namibia?
Namibian schools value punctuality, professional dress, and a learner-centered approach that respects cultural diversity. Teachers are expected to follow the national curriculum, uphold the school's code of conduct, and often contribute to community or co-curricular activities.
What career progression or growth paths are realistic from this permanent teaching post?
With experience and further studies, you can move into senior teacher, head of department, or principal roles. Many teachers also specialize in curriculum development, educational leadership, or transition into advisory positions within the Ministry of Education.
What typical benefits can I expect, such as leave, medical aid, or pension?
Full-time permanent teachers in Namibia generally receive annual leave aligned with school holidays, sick leave, and access to the Government Institutions Pension Fund or a private pension scheme. Medical aid is often available through employer-linked schemes, but the exact package varies by school and employment terms.
How do I apply for this post and what do Namibian employers look for in an application?
Submit a cover letter, certified copies of qualifications, a detailed CV, and proof of teaching registration to the school's advertised address or email. Employers look for clear subject competence, classroom experience, a clean disciplinary record, and strong references from previous schools.
