A minimum of a Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field is usually required, with preference given to candidates holding a PhD or industry-recognised certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate or AWS Certified Developer. Namibian institutions often require registration with the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and may expect evidence of teaching experience or vocational training aligned with the National Curriculum Framework.

Daily responsibilities include delivering lectures and practical coding labs using tools like Java, Python, SQL, and web frameworks; marking assignments and projects aligned with NQF Level 6–7 outcomes; and supporting students through tutorials and academic mentoring. Lecturers also contribute to curriculum review, participate in departmental meetings, and engage in community outreach—often coordinated through the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture guidelines.

Namibian academic workplaces emphasise respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and strong interpersonal communication—especially when engaging with multilingual students from diverse regional backgrounds. Permanent lecturers typically receive 22–30 days annual leave, sick leave as per the Labour Act, and access to government or institution-negotiated medical aid schemes. Pension contributions follow either the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) or a private fund regulated by the Namibian Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA), depending on employer type and contract terms.
