REKENKUNDE/ENTREPRENEURSKAP – WAP Education

Applicants usually need a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Commerce or Accounting, or a relevant undergraduate degree plus a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) accredited by the Namibian Qualifications Authority (NQA). Registration with the Teaching Council of Namibia (TCN) is mandatory, and subject-specific competence in both Accounting and Entrepreneurship as per the Namibian Senior Secondary Curriculum is expected.

Daily duties include delivering lessons aligned with the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture’s curriculum, marking assignments and exams, supervising entrepreneurship projects or school-based enterprises, and participating in learner support programmes like Learner Support Committees. Teachers also attend staff meetings, engage in continuous professional development, and often mentor learners preparing for the NSSCO or NSSC Ordinary Level examinations.

Namibian schools emphasise respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and community engagement — teachers are expected to uphold cultural values and contribute to school development plans and extramural activities like business clubs or financial literacy outreach. Employers value adaptability to resource-constrained environments and the ability to teach both theoretical accounting concepts and practical entrepreneurial skills using locally relevant case studies.

Teachers may progress from Junior Teacher to Senior Teacher, then to Head of Department (Accounting/Commerce), and potentially to Deputy Principal or Principal after completing leadership training and meeting TCN requirements. Some transition into curriculum advisory roles with the Ministry of Education or become assessors for the Namibia National Qualifications Framework (NNQF) in business-related fields.

Public school teachers are covered under the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) and receive 30 days’ annual leave, sick leave, and maternity/paternity leave as per the Labour Act and Public Service Regulations. Private and WAP-affiliated schools vary, but most offer at least statutory leave entitlements and may provide group medical aid schemes — always confirm coverage details during the hiring process.
