A Grade 10 or 12 certificate is usually sufficient, coupled with a valid driver's license (often Code B/BE or C1). Relevant safety induction training, especially in mining operations, will be provided or is a significant advantage.

Daily tasks involve safely directing haul trucks to designated ore stockpiles or waste dumps, ensuring correct material placement and efficient flow. Spotters are also responsible for monitoring the dumping process for any hazards and communicating effectively with operators and supervisors.

Namibian mining culture places a high emphasis on safety protocols, teamwork, and adherence to operational procedures within a shift-based environment. Punctuality, physical fitness, and a willingness to work outdoors in various conditions are key expectations.

With accumulated experience and further training, an Ore and Dump Spotter can progress to roles such as Haul Truck Operator, Plant Assistant, or even a Team Leader position. Many mines offer internal development programs to upskill employees into more specialized or supervisory roles.
