Some employers also prefer candidates with a valid medical fitness certificate and security clearance for handling explosives.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Blasters Assistant?
You will assist qualified blasters with preparing blast sites, transporting and handling explosives, loading blast holes, and connecting detonators. Safety checks, clearing the blast area, and post-blast inspections are also core duties. You must strictly follow Mine Health and Safety Act regulations at all times.
How is the work culture and what expectations do mining employers in Namibia have?
Namibian mining operations emphasize strict safety compliance, punctuality, and respect for hierarchy. You will work long shifts, often 12 hours in remote locations, and must adapt to fly-in-fly-out or camp-based living. Employers value reliability, physical fitness, and teamwork in harsh desert conditions.
What career progression opportunities exist for Blasters Assistants in Namibia?
With experience and additional training, you can advance to Certified Blaster, then Senior Blaster or Blast Supervisor. Further studies through NIMT or NTA can lead to roles in mine planning or explosives management. Some assistants transition into drilling, surveying, or safety officer positions.
What benefits are typically offered for Blasters Assistant positions in Namibian mining?
Most established mining contractors provide medical aid, pension or provident fund contributions, and annual leave as per Namibian Labour Act requirements. Remote site work often includes accommodation, meals, and transport to site. Specific benefits vary by employer and contract type.
How should I apply and what do Namibian mining employers look for in applications?
Apply directly through company websites, Namibian job portals like My Namibia, or recruitment agencies specializing in mining.
