BLASTER / MINER – New Horizon Copper (Pty) Ltd

You typically need a Grade 12 certificate with mathematics and physical science, plus a Blasting Certificate from the Namibia Training Authority or recognized mining school. Employers also require a valid Namibian driver's license and medical fitness certification for underground work.

Daily tasks include drilling blast holes, loading explosives according to safety protocols, conducting pre-blast inspections, and clearing blasted rock for extraction. You will also complete safety checklists and report hazards to your shift supervisor.

Most Namibian mines operate on rotational shift systems including day and night shifts, often with two weeks on-site followed by rest periods. Punctuality, strict adherence to safety protocols, and respect for hierarchical reporting structures are deeply valued in local mining culture.

With experience, you can advance to Senior Miner, Shift Boss, or Mine Supervisor roles by completing additional NTA qualifications and leadership training. Some professionals transition into blasting engineering or mine planning positions with further tertiary education.
