Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and experience are typically required for an 'HR Officer & Graduate Geologist' role in Namibia?
You would generally need a Bachelor's degree in Geology, as indicated by the 'Graduate Geologist' title. For the HR component, a diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or relevant experience in HR support functions would be highly beneficial. Employers often look for candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of both fields.
How would the typical day-to-day responsibilities be split between the HR Officer and Graduate Geologist duties?
Your daily tasks would likely involve a blend of HR administration, such as recruitment support, record keeping, and employee welfare, alongside geological field or office work. The exact split often depends on the company's operational needs and project cycles, with potential for more geology-focused work during drilling campaigns. You would be expected to manage tasks from both disciplines efficiently.
What is the work culture like for a dual role such as this in a Namibian drilling company?
Namibian drilling companies often have a pragmatic and results-oriented culture, sometimes operating in remote areas requiring adaptability and a strong work ethic. Expect a collaborative environment where teamwork is valued, and adherence to health and safety regulations is paramount due to the nature of the industry. Punctuality, reliability, and respect for local customs are also highly regarded.
What are the realistic career progression paths for someone in an 'HR Officer & Graduate Geologist' role?
This unique role offers diverse growth opportunities, potentially allowing you to specialize in either HR management or geology within the mining/drilling sector. You could advance to a dedicated HR Manager role, or, with further experience, move into a Geology position like Project Geologist or Resource Geologist, leveraging your initial field experience. Continuous learning and professional development in your chosen area will be key for advancement.
What kind of benefits, such as leave or medical aid, can a job seeker typically expect for this type of full-time role in Namibia?
Full-time employees in Namibia generally receive benefits in line with the Labour Act, including annual leave, sick leave, and maternity leave.
