PAYROLL DEPARTMENT

A National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, or Business Administration is commonly required. Employers often prefer candidates with payroll-specific training, such as the Namibian Institute of Bankers’ (NIB) Payroll Administration short course or CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) certification, especially for senior roles.

Daily tasks include processing monthly salaries, ensuring compliance with Namibian labour laws (e.g., Labour Act 11 of 2007), and reconciling statutory deductions like NSSA, PAYE, and UIF. You’ll also liaise with HR and finance teams to update employee records, handle queries from staff, and prepare reports for management or auditors.

Punctuality, accuracy, and confidentiality are highly valued, reflecting Namibia’s strong emphasis on trust and respect in workplace relationships. Employers expect adherence to local statutory deadlines—such as NSSA and tax submissions—and sensitivity to cultural norms, including respectful communication when addressing salary-related concerns across diverse language and ethnic groups.

Entry-level roles like Payroll Assistant can lead to Payroll Officer, then Senior Payroll Officer or Payroll Manager, often with added HR or finance responsibilities. Some professionals transition into broader HR business partnering, compensation & benefits, or internal audit roles—especially after gaining experience with Namibian statutory frameworks and pursuing further qualifications like the CIPM or SHRM-CP.
