A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is standard, and many employers prefer candidates with professional certification such as ACCA, CIMA, or SAICA (though SAICA is South African, it’s widely recognised in Namibia). The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia (ICAN) registration is increasingly valued, especially for roles involving statutory reporting or audit oversight.

Daily tasks include preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements, managing VAT and PAYE submissions to the Namibian Revenue Agency (NamRA), reconciling bank and control accounts, and supporting internal and external audits. You’ll also supervise junior accountants, liaise with auditors, and ensure compliance with Namibian Financial Reporting Standards (NFRS) and the Companies Act, 2004.

Namibian workplaces generally value respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and clear communication—especially when interacting with senior management or regulatory bodies like NamRA. Team collaboration is important, but accountability is individual; senior accountants are expected to take ownership of financial accuracy and deadlines without constant supervision.

Some professionals transition into advisory roles with accounting firms registered with the Namibian Institute of Accountants (NIA) or move into CFO positions within larger local or regional organisations.
