The Challenge
To supervise the maintenance, installation and modification of all equipment in designated areas and ensure tasks are conducted in accordance with regulations and set procedures to achieve optimum equipment availability and process efficiency objectives.
As mining progresses below the sea level, increasing volumes of seepage water must be intercepted and removed to maintain safe, dry, and stable working areas. This requires a robust dewatering network comprising abstraction sumps, pumps, pipelines, and monitoring systems operating reliably in a demanding environment. Key challenges include managing fluctuating seepage inflows, maintaining equipment availability, reducing downtime, and ensuring sufficient dewatering capacity to support uninterrupted mining activities while protecting pit stability and operational safety.
Given that pumping systems represent one of the largest consumers of electrical energy within mining operations, there is also a growing need to optimize energy usage without compromising water management objectives. This requires improved pump selection and scheduling, real-time monitoring of system performance, optimization of pump operating points, reduction of hydraulic losses within the network, and the implementation of data-driven controls to minimize energy consumption and operating costs. Achieving the right balance between dewatering effectiveness, equipment reliability, and energy efficiency is essential to delivering sustainable and cost-effective mining operations.
Because dewatering is critical to maintaining safe mining operations, a reliable emergency power supply is essential to ensure continuous water control during power outages. The prospective candidate is to ensure well-maintained standby generators help prevent flooding, equipment damage, operational disruptions, and safety risks, thereby enhancing operational resilience and ensuring uninterrupted mining activities.
