TEACHER E/F – Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture

You typically need a Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant subject plus a teaching qualification such as a Higher Diploma in Education. Registration with the Namibia Professional Teachers' Union (NANTU) or the Teachers' Union of Namibia (TUN) is usually required. Some positions may accept a three-year diploma with relevant teaching experience.

You will prepare and deliver lessons according to the Namibian curriculum, assess student progress, and maintain records. You also supervise extracurricular activities and participate in parent-teacher meetings. Administrative duties like marking registers and preparing reports are common.

Rural schools often have larger class sizes, limited resources, and may require you to teach multiple subjects or grades. Urban schools typically have better infrastructure but higher competition for positions. Both settings value community engagement and respect for hierarchical structures within the ministry.

Public sector teachers receive benefits including annual leave, sick leave, and participation in the Government Institutions Pension Fund. Medical aid schemes are often available through employer arrangements. Housing allowances may be provided for rural postings depending on location.

You can advance through salary scales from E to F and beyond based on experience and further qualifications. Opportunities include becoming a head of department, deputy principal, or principal. Specialized roles in curriculum development or teacher training at the National Institute for Educational Development are also possible.
