A National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or Business Administration is commonly preferred. Relevant short courses from institutions like the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) or Namibian Institute of Bankers (NIB) in digital marketing or sales fundamentals add value. Prior internship or volunteer experience with local media or NGOs strengthens applications.

Daily tasks include pitching advertising packages to local businesses in towns like Oshakati or Rundu, preparing on-air promotional content in local languages (e.g., Oshiwambo), and tracking ad placements and listener feedback. You’ll also support community outreach events, manage social media pages aligned with Namibian cultural calendars, and collaborate with presenters to integrate sponsor messages authentically.

Respect for hierarchy and relationship-building through face-to-face engagement remain important — expect regular visits to small businesses and participation in local events like trade fairs or church bazaars. Punctuality is valued, but flexibility around community commitments (e.g., funeral leave or harvest season) is understood and often accommodated within reasonable limits.

With 2–4 years’ experience, officers often progress to Senior Sales Executive or Marketing Coordinator roles at larger broadcasters such as NBC or private stations like Radio Energy. Others transition into media sales management, NGO communications coordination, or start small media consultancies supporting SMEs — especially in northern regions where demand for local-language marketing expertise is growing.

Employers typically provide at least 21 days’ annual leave, statutory sick leave, and access to a medical aid scheme — though coverage level depends on the station’s size and budget.
