MANAGER: MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING
PATERSON GRADE D3
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Management Accountant is responsible for coordinating and preparing DBN’s monthly financial and management accounts and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS; for coordinating the overall budgeting process, and performing financial analysis by continuously enhancing forward-looking sustainability models and historical financial analysis.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
Plan, develop and implement business unit objectives.
Keep track of implementation of business unit activities in relation to objectives and deal with deviations and changes where required. Monitor, evaluate, analyze and report on business unit activities.
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
Develop, refine and consolidate the Financial Forecast Model (Sustainability Model) to improve operational and strategic planning at an institutional an departmental level. Translate and apply the results of the model into a consolidated and departmental-level budget forecast. Perform all relevant accounting functions, such as loan book analysis, monthly management accounts, and interim financial statements, and prepare annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
Ensure that new systems/functionalities are implemented to meet operational requirements and to optimize operational efficiency. Manage the Loan Book function, including approving
standardized classification of loans and calculated provision, verifying accuracy of provisions captured, reconciliation of the Loan Book with the General Ledger, overseeing the rectification/journals/exception reports of incorrect loan accounts, reviewing of monthly
lists for restructured accounts, undrawn commitments, matured and soon to mature loans, preparation of Synopsis report and advising on deal interpretation and structuring. Ensure that operational users are appropriately and adequately trained to utilize existing systems and functionality towards operational efficiency.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Develop annual budgets for all business units with other managers, HODs, and Chief Financial Officer. Monitor and control business unit spending, reviewing budget versus actuals and report as per requirements.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
Review business unit functions and requirements in relation to staff complement, structure, and workload and assist with the recruitment and selection of staff. Implement a performance management process to evaluate employees’ performance and take corrective action where necessary. Implement and continuously manage employee development.
Effectively manage staff to ensure a high level of productivity,
professionalism, and work ethics.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and completed articles at a reputable audit firm. Being a Qualified Chartered Accountant, registered with ACCA, ICAN or SAICA.
A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a financial industry with exposure to SAP, business processes, of which 2 years in a supervisory position.
Proficiency in generally accepted accounting practices and principles.
Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations.
Computer literacy, with advanced MS Excel modeling skills, as well as PowerPoint and Word.
Must have experience in computerized accounting systems preferably SAP.
An analytical mindset.

Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
A high level of decisiveness and resilience.
Interpersonal sensitivity and the ability to build strong work related relationships.
