SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL METROLOGIST

You typically need a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related scientific field from a recognized institution such as UNAM or NUST. Professional certification from the Namibia Standards Institution (NSI) or international bodies like SADCAS is highly advantageous. Practical laboratory experience during your studies strengthens your competitiveness in the local job market.

You will calibrate and verify measurement instruments, ensure compliance with national and international standards, and maintain traceability to SI units. Daily tasks include laboratory testing, documentation of results, and advising industries on measurement accuracy. You may also conduct audits and train staff on proper equipment usage.

Namibian employers value punctuality, respect for hierarchy, and strong interpersonal relationships in professional settings. Government and parastatal employers often emphasize procedural compliance and long-term job security, while private sector roles may demand faster turnaround times. Building trust through consistent performance is essential for contract renewal.

With experience, you can advance to Senior Metrologist, Laboratory Manager, or Quality Assurance Manager roles within NSI, mining companies, or manufacturing firms. Specializing in emerging areas like renewable energy metrology or environmental monitoring opens additional pathways. Further studies at Master's level and professional registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia accelerate advancement.

Contract roles in government and large corporations usually include medical aid contributions, pension fund arrangements, and annual leave entitlements as per Namibian Labour Act requirements. Private sector contracts may offer performance bonuses and training allowances. Always verify whether benefits are employer-contributed or deducted from your total package before signing.

Apply through official channels such as the NSI careers portal, government vacancy bulletins, or reputable Namibian job platforms like My Namibia and Careers Namibia. Employers prioritize candidates with demonstrated practical experience, knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and strong analytical skills. A well-structured CV highlighting instrumentation proficiency and attention to detail significantly improves your chances.
