LFS DESIGNER / STRUCTURAL DETAILER – GPM Roofing & Projects

A National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from a Namibian institution (e.g., UNAM) or equivalent accredited qualification is commonly required. Registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia (ECN) as a Candidate or Professional Engineer is increasingly expected, especially for roles involving sign-off on structural drawings. Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or Revit — often verified via portfolio or practical test — is essential.

Daily tasks include interpreting architectural and structural engineer inputs to produce detailed steel and light-frame steel (LFS) shop drawings, checking compliance with SANS 10162 and local building regulations, and coordinating with site supervisors and fabricators. You’ll frequently revise drawings based on site feedback, attend pre-fabrication meetings, and support tender documentation — all while managing tight deadlines common in Namibia’s project-driven construction sector.

Namibian engineering workplaces value strong interpersonal communication, adaptability to variable site conditions (e.g., remote locations, limited infrastructure), and respect for hierarchical reporting structures, especially on joint ventures with South African or international firms. Some transition into freelance detailing, technical sales for roofing systems, or pursue further study (e.g., UNAM’s MEng) to move into structural design or project management — pathways supported by growing demand in infrastructure and housing development.

Most formal employers provide at least 22 days’ annual leave, sick leave per the Labour Act, and mandatory membership in the Namibian Social Security Commission (NSSC).
