HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER (PERMANENT) – Rental Support Services

Most employers require a diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. The Namibian Ministry of Labour may require registration with relevant professional bodies, and certifications like NEBOSH or IOSH are highly valued. Practical experience in construction, mining, or industrial sectors strengthens your application.

Daily tasks include conducting workplace inspections, identifying hazards, and ensuring compliance with the Namibian Labour Act and safety regulations. You will train employees on safety procedures, investigate incidents, and maintain accurate incident reports. Regular liaison with management and workers' representatives is essential to foster a safety culture.

Namibian workplaces often blend formal safety protocols with community-oriented communication styles, requiring officers to build trust across diverse teams. Respect for hierarchy means reporting structures are important, but proactive engagement with workers at all levels improves compliance. Understanding local languages and cultural norms enhances your effectiveness in rural or multi-ethnic settings.

With experience, you can advance to Health and Safety Manager, Regional Safety Coordinator, or Consultant roles across mining, construction, and logistics sectors. Specializing in areas like environmental compliance or risk management opens additional paths. Further qualifications and NEBOSH diplomas significantly accelerate promotion prospects.

Permanent roles usually include annual leave as prescribed by the Namibian Labour Act, medical aid contributions, and pension or provident fund arrangements. Some employers offer additional benefits such as housing allowances or transport subsidies, particularly in remote mining regions. Always clarify specific benefits during the interview process as packages vary considerably.

Employers prioritize demonstrated knowledge of Namibian labour laws, practical hazard assessment skills, and strong communication abilities. Tailor your CV to highlight relevant certifications, incident investigation experience, and any industry-specific exposure. Submit applications through company portals or recruitment agencies, and prepare for interviews that test both technical knowledge and scenario-based problem solving.
