How to Apply
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and certifications are typically required for a Finance Director role in Namibia?
Most employers require a CA(SA), ACCA, or CIMA qualification, plus a relevant degree in finance or accounting. Namibian companies often prefer candidates registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia (ICAN). At least 10-15 years of progressive experience, including senior management roles, is usually expected.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Finance Director in Namibia's leisure and hospitality sector?
You will oversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting for multiple properties or operations. Daily tasks include managing cash flow, liaising with banks and auditors, ensuring compliance with Namibian tax laws, and presenting to executive leadership. You will also lead a finance team and support strategic decisions for business expansion.
How does workplace culture and employer expectations differ for senior finance roles in Namibia?
Namibian employers value relationship-building and respect for hierarchy, so stakeholder management is crucial. Punctuality and professionalism are expected, but decisions may involve broader consultation than in purely corporate environments. Understanding local business networks and demonstrating community engagement can strengthen your standing.
What career progression opportunities exist for Finance Directors in Namibia?
Progression typically moves to Group CFO, Managing Director, or board-level positions within larger Namibian corporates or multinational subsidiaries. Some transition into consultancy or entrepreneurship given the small market size. Regional expansion into Botswana, Zambia, or South Africa is another common path for ambitious executives.
What benefits are standard for Finance Director positions in Namibia?
Standard packages include medical aid contributions, pension or provident fund arrangements, and annual leave of 20-25 days. Senior roles often add vehicle allowances, housing subsidies, and performance bonuses. Always verify whether benefits are fully employer-funded or co-contribution based, as this varies significantly.
How should I apply for a Finance Director role in Namibia, and what do employers prioritize in candidates?
Apply through Namibian job portals like My Namibia, LinkedIn, or executive search firms such as PwC Namibia or Deloitte. Employers prioritize proven leadership in similar sectors, local regulatory knowledge, and stability in employment history. Tailor your CV to highlight strategic impact and ensure referees are reachable and credible.
