A National Vocational Certificate (NVC) in Electrical or an equivalent NQF Level 3/4 qualification is usually a baseline requirement. Daily tasks involve inspecting, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment, including motors, generators, and control panels within the mine. You will also troubleshoot faults, perform installations, and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and local electrical codes.

A strong emphasis is placed on safety compliance, teamwork, and reliability due to the hazardous nature of heavy industry. You are expected to be punctual, adaptable to potential shift work, and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and equipment maintenance.

With experience and further specialised training, an Electrician can advance to roles such as Senior Electrician, Electrical Foreman, or Supervisor. Opportunities also exist for specialisation in areas like instrumentation, automation, or high-voltage systems.
