A minimum of a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a Namibian institution (e.g., UNAM or NUST) is usually required. Professional certification such as ACCA, CIMA, or SAICA-recognised qualifications is highly valued, and registration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia (ICAN) is often preferred for career advancement.

Daily tasks include processing debtor invoices, reconciling customer accounts, monitoring overdue payments, preparing bank reconciliations, managing petty cash, and supporting monthly financial reporting in line with Namibian Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) requirements. You’ll also liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders using local banking systems and government-compliant accounting software like Pastel or SAP S/4HANA used by many Namibian public entities.

Namibian finance roles emphasise strong adherence to PFMA, accountability, and transparency—especially in state-affiliated organisations—and expect respectful, hierarchical communication aligned with local norms. Punctuality, formal dress codes, and relationship-building through face-to-face interaction remain important, particularly when coordinating with regional offices or rural-based operations common in tourism-related entities.

With experience and further qualifications, you may progress to Senior Financial Accountant, Treasury Officer, or Internal Auditor roles—often supported by ICAN or PFMA-aligned training programmes offered by institutions like the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA) or the Ministry of Finance. Some professionals transition into finance management positions across other parastatals or move into advisory roles with audit firms registered in Namibia.

Employees typically receive 20–25 days annual leave, sick leave in line with the Namibian Labour Act, and access to a government-approved medical aid scheme (e.g., NAMAF or similar). A mandatory pension contribution is made under the Namibian Pension Funds Act, often supplemented by employer contributions to a defined benefit or defined contribution fund administered by a local provider.
