WWF Communications & Fundraising Program Director
World Wildlife Fund works to support the Namibian Government, Namibian Organizations and Namibian Communities to protect the country’s natural resources whilst at the same time seeking ways where Namibians can benefit from a sustainable nature-based economy. WWF Namibia has a new Strategic Plan 2022-26 pursuing the vision “Africa’s wildlife and wild places are valued and conserved in Namibia and beyond” by focusing on a number of high-level strategies:
(1) Responsible stewardship,
(2) Socio-economic values unlocked,
(3) Increased resilience to shocks;
(4) Landscape-level conservation;
(5) Key biodiversity assets protected; and
(6) Enabling environment for conservation.
WWF Namibia is currently pursuing the Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiative, which aims to establish a sustainable financing mechanism for community conservation in Namibia. WWF Namibia therefore is recruiting for a Communications & Fundraising Program Director, who will manage the implementation of the WWF Communication and Visibility Plan, including managing internal and external communications relating to the PFP project.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications & Fundraising Program Director will lead a team of communication professionals, to ensure that WWF Namibia’s work is achieving conservation impacts nationally and internationally through strategic communications. The Director will also serve as fund-raising lead for strategic partnerships focusing on private sector and philanthropic partnerships, working in close association with the various technical Program Directors and the Country Director. She / he will:
- Develop an operational execution plan to implement the Communications Plan (part of SP 2022-26) and leverage resources for its implementation.
- Identify Communications and Fundraising Unit’s staffing needs and develop unit development plan; serve on WWF Namibia Senior Management Team (SMT).
- Work with the PFP Team and WWF Namibia SMT to plan, develop, and implement a purpose driven communications strategy to help the PFP meet its objectives. This could be done through integration of PFP communications needs within the existing WWF Namibia Communications Strategy.
- Develop a name for the Namibian PFP to promote authenticity to facilitate fundraising and targeted communications.
- Oversee the development of communication materials to raise awareness and support for PFP implementation amongst key target groups (at all levels – local, regional, national, international).
- Support and work with the Country Director in developing and implementing a fund-raising
strategy that will access new and additional resources for conservation partners in Namibia and KAZA, focusing on private sector and philanthropic partnerships. Learn from other WWF Network partners and facilitate peer exchange.
We are looking for a person with:
- A tertiary degree/diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Relations, or related fields; an advanced degree in development studies or / and environmental field is an added advantage.
- Senior experience in leading the development of strategic communication and behaviour change strategies and plans; minimum of 5-10 years relevant experience in a communications role.
- Experience in fundraising, including at least 5 years of experience in managing donor-funded projects.
- Experience in developing and managing partner / stakeholder I donor relations.
- Proven design competencies in developing communication materials (newsletters, e-bulletins, posters, presentations, film, website design); photographic/film making abilities would be an advantage.
- Knowledge on traditional and new forms of media to deliver messages to both internal and external audiences; including proficiency in content management systems and social media platforms.
- Have knowledge of basic and advanced principles of communications, public relations, marketing, and management in promoting conservation.
- A good understanding of conservation and environmental issues and the use of communications to portray these fields.
- Good diplomatic skills with sensitivity to political and cultural issues and values; including ability to assess the potential reputational risks and to act on opportunities for communication impact.
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical and research skills;
- Good time management, organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Target oriented with willingness to learn;
- Flexible and creative with an aptitude for solving problems together with a positive attitude;
- Comfortable in working independently, as well as part of a team;
- Proactive, decisive, agile and creative.
