About the Company
Gibeon Village Council is the local authority responsible for the governance and administration of Gibeon, a small settlement in southern Namibia's Hardap Region. Established as a proclaimed village council under Namibia's local authority framework, it manages the village's land and common areas on behalf of its residents. Its core functions include the provision of basic municipal services such as water supply, sanitation, refuse removal, and the upkeep of streets and public spaces within the village boundaries. Gibeon lies along the B1 road between Mariental and Keetmanshoop, and the surrounding area is internationally recognised as the source of the famed Gibeon meteorites. As a public institution rooted in the community, the council represents local interests within the Hardap Region's governance structures while serving as a source of administrative employment in the village.

Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications, certifications, or education are typically needed for a Chief Executive Officer role in Namibia?
Usually a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field is required, with many employers preferring a master's degree. Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Project Management Professional (PMP) can strengthen an application. Experience in senior management, especially in local government or community development, is essential.
What are the common day-to-day responsibilities of a CEO in a Namibian village council?
The CEO oversees the implementation of council policies, manages the budget, and coordinates with various departments to deliver services to residents. They represent Gibeon Village Council in meetings with regional authorities, NGOs, and community leaders. Daily work includes staff supervision, strategic planning, and reporting on performance indicators to the council and stakeholders.
How does local work culture and expectations in Namibia affect a CEO's role?
Namibian workplaces value punctuality, respect for hierarchical structures, and a collaborative approach that incorporates community input. Employers expect leaders to demonstrate integrity, cultural sensitivity, and an understanding of local languages such as Oshiwambo or Afrikaans where relevant. Building trust with the community and maintaining transparency are key expectations for a CEO in a village council setting.
What realistic career progression or growth paths exist after serving as a CEO in a Namibian village council?
After serving as CEO of a village council, professionals often move to senior roles in regional or national government agencies, such as director positions in ministries of local government or rural development. Some transition to consultancy or advisory roles focusing on public sector reform or community development projects. Continuous professional development and networking within Namibia's public service can open opportunities for leadership in larger municipalities or parastatal organizations.
What typical benefits are offered for a contract CEO position in Namibia, and how should one apply?
Benefits for contract CEOs in Namibian local government usually include paid leave accrual, medical aid contributions, and a pension or provident fund scheme, though specifics depend on the contract terms. Employers look for candidates with proven leadership, clear communication skills, and a track record of delivering results in resource-constrained environments. Applications are typically submitted through the Public Service Commission website or directly to the Gibeon Village Council office, accompanied by a detailed CV, cover letter, and copies of qualifications.
