APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS:
An appropriate National Diploma or equivalent qualification at NQF L6 in the following fields: Nature Conservation, Wildlife Management, Protected Areas Management, Conservation Biology, Environmental Management or Biodiversity Management or related fields, plus six (6) years appropriate working experience.
SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must be in possession of an appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification at NQF L8, served at least three (3) years at Chief Warden Grade 7 position or equal grade and have a valid Code B Driver License.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Concession Unit by promoting inter – and – intra sectoral coordination and cooperation, providing direction and leadership, sourcing, securing, administering and resources to ensure optimal performance and achievement of the Unit’s goals and objectives, through supervising staff, allocating workloads and tasks as well as planning, processing and monitoring thereof.
Main duties are as follows:
⦁ General implementation of the Policy On Tourism and Wildlife Concessions On State Land;
⦁ Establish procedures, policies, systems, databases, records, contracts, and skills necessary for the professional and effective management of concessions
⦁ Proactively plan for concession activities;
⦁ Process and procure concessions either by preferential awarding of concessions to conservancies, competitive tender or unsolicited applications;
⦁ Assess concession proposals with the appropriate technical support and recommend to the Minister;
⦁ Monitor concession activities to ensure impacts are minimized and concession conditions are complied with;
⦁ Negotiate concession agreements, collect revenue and conduct rent reviews;
⦁ Maintain effective relationships with concessionaires, NGOs, conservancies and the tourism sector;
⦁ Support and advise the Minister, Concessions Committee and MET senior management regarding concession matters;
⦁ Manage Concessions Unit, allocate tasks, mentor staff and monitor their performance;
⦁ Report and liaise with the Concessions Committee;
⦁ Increase revenue from concession activities.
