The Namibia Red Cross Society (NRCS) is known for its work across the country both at national and grassroots levels. As the only humanitarian organization in Namibia, the National Society is committed to provide excellent humanitarian services to those affected by disasters such as droughts, COVID-19, seasonal floods, HIV and AIDS, food insecurity, road fatalities and others. Although the NRCS headquarters is in Windhoek, it is operational in ten Regions of the country.
We are looking for consultants to conduct a Market Assessment
and Value Chain Analysis
The overall purpose of the Market Assessment and Value Chain Analysis is to inform the small-scale farmers to engage in meaningful agro-business, increase the employment opportunities and improve their living conditions in Zambezi Region. The market assessment will identify at least 3 value chains with highest potential for growth and profitability in the region, while the Value Chain Analysis will determine how the identified value chain can be developed and how Small-Scale Farmers (SSF) can better entry into those value chains. The value chain analysis will lead to value chain development strategies with practical action points.
Scope of work:
- Identify agriculture market dynamics and opportunities
- Map the existing potential value chains.
- Assess and map the supply and demand of agricultural/livestock services in targeted areas
- Select at least 3 key value chains with the highest potential for growth and profitability for small scale farmers.
- Analyze the supporting functions that are required to make the value chain work, including both existing and missing support functions.
- Select at least 3 key value chains with the highest potential for growth and profitability for small scale farmers.
- Analyze the supporting functions that are required to make the value chain work, including both existing and missing support functions.
- Identify key challenges and constraints faced by SSF to entry those value chains and find out potential solutions, interventions, and strategies.
- Assess the competitiveness of the value chains and determine how to create competitive advantages in the context of local and regional trends.
- Assess the cost, profit, marketing, and supply and demand dynamics of the value chain.
- Recommend value chain development plan(s) – Business model
Researcher/Consultant Profiles:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional job experience (market assessments, local economic development, value chain development.
strategic planning, etc.)
- Proven experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring livelihoods programs
- Experience in working with international and national NGOs and UN organizations, Red Cross Movement or with government authorities at national level
- Excellent analytical, writing and workshop facilitation skills
