VETERINARIAN – CHEETAH CONSERVATION FUND(CCF)
CCF is currently seeking a full-time veterinarian for its cheetah rehabilitation facilities in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The facilities provide housing and veterinary care for cheetah cubs confiscated by government authorities from the illegal wildlife trade. Position works with team of veterinarians, vet techs, and cheetah keepers under the supervision of a Project Manager and Project Director. Most of the work is clinical, but may involve visits to external sites to administer care. Community outreach programs may be added in the future.
Main duties
- Provide ongoing veterinary care for cheetah cubs living in the CCF facilities in Hargeisa
- Manage the onsite clinic, including inventory, maintenance and hygiene
- Maintaining the clinic databases and electronic records
- Coordinate and lead bi-weekly meetings with international team on health status of cubs
- Supervise the veterinary technicians, volunteer veterinarians and interns working with the project
- Coordinate with the Carnivore Keepers and animal care staff to ensure good internal communication
- Interact with visitors and guests
- Represent CCF at meetings with cheetah project stakeholders in Hargeisa and region
- Other duties assigned by the Project Director or Project Manager
Requirements
- DVM or other equivalent veterinary medical degree
- 5 years of experience as a veterinarian, preferably with big cats or other wildlife
- Ability to manage control protocols and treatment of medical and surgical cases
- Confident executing preventative and routine health care for cheetahs, including vaccination and parasite control
- Willingness to relocate to Hargeisa, Somaliland
- Driver’s license with good driving record
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; must be fluent in written and spoken English
Preferred Qualifications
- On the ground experience working with a conservation program in Africa
- Willingness and interest in participating in ongoing research § Willingness to mentor incoming veterinary student interns for their research projects
- Laboratory research experience
- Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmission

Salary plus benefits; local housing and meals provided. One round-trip airfare ticket for each six-months of continuous employment, or two trip tickets per calendar year.
