Unit Manager (Operating Theatre) | Welwitschia Hospital
Job Summary
Providing a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the hospital operating theatre department, to whom medical practitioners and subordinates can turn to for assistance, advice and support. Lead, manage and strategically improve critical aspects of the operating theatre department and infection control by investigating and addressing challenges to departmental goals. Represent and advocate nursing interest in the Nursing Management Committee.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform a vital role in the effective relationship management between the hospital and medical practitioners operating within the operating theatre department.
- Motivate and lead direct subordinates and clinical staff through example by means of continuous adherence to Performance and Nursing Standards, Reporting structures, Company Policies and Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, LEAN sustainability and relevant protocols.
- Execute all administrative, audit and managerial duties as operationally required from the Theatre Unit Manager, such as monthly reports, infection and risk management strategies, theatre stock and equipment control, gathering statistics and writing of theatre nursing standard operating procedures.
- Play an active role in the recruitment and selection of new clinical staff. Conduct and provide training to clinical staff who may require additional guidance or instruction.
- Perform continuous research to remain up-to-date with current knowledge, skills, theatre techniques and trends on nursing care and hospital principles/practises.
Minimum Requirements
- Namibian Citizenship or eligible to work in Namibia.
- Registered Nurse and Theatre Technique Qualification. Nursing Management Qualification will be an added advantage.
- 10 years’ working experience as a Registered Nurse in Theatre, of which at least 3 years were in a mid-management position.
- Ability to guide team and individuals in order to ensure the highest standard of care is maintained, and dealing effectively with a negative deviation of performance and behavioural standards & norms.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and willingness to deal with everyday challenges.
- Carry great knowledge of current Namibian Acts and Health & Safety legislation that influence patient care and rights.
- Availability and willingness to assist in case of emergencies at inconvenient hours, weekends or public holidays.
