Underground Trial Mine Geotechnical Engineer

One Year Renewable Fixed Term Contract

The position will report functionally to the Underground Mining Project Manager but will operate within a Project Matrix Structure, where there is direct interaction with External Consultants and Internal Stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Review Consultants reports and advise management on relevance of recommendations.
• Advise on geotechnical data capturing, tests and analysis of geotechnical drilling output.
• Install Sublevel Open Stopping geotechnical monitoring instruments and collect data, in liaison with the Consultants.
• Work with the Mining Engineers, Geologists and Consultants, based on an agreed responsibility matrix, during stope stability evaluation, Grade Control and Mine Design.
• Conduct geotechnical mapping, design/review blast patterns and analyse post blast data.
• Work with consultants in producing a Structural and Geotechnical Model.
• Conduct risk assessment and recommend ground control systems.
• Monitor and conduct tests on the support installed by the Trial Mining Contractor.
• Compile a Code of Practice based on relevant legislation and international best practice.
• Participate in the Main Mine geotechnical studies.
• Recommend geotechnical instruments, tools and equipment.
• Conduct geotechnical training for Mining Officials and Graduate Trainees.
• Assist the Project Manager is day to day administration duties.
• Ensure adherence to QKR Navachab Gold Mine SHEQ policies and procedures.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Sc. I B.Eng. Mining Engineering, B.Sc. Engineering Geology or B.Sc. (Honours) Geology or Equivalent.
• A recognized Certificate in Rock Mechanics.
• Registered or eligible for registration with the South African National Institute of Rock Engineering or International Society of Rock Mechanics.
• A valid Driver’s license.
