TRAVEL CONSULTANT – Rennies BCD Namibia

Most employers require a diploma or certificate in travel and tourism from institutions like the Namibia University of Science and Technology or private colleges. Industry certifications such as IATA or Amadeus/GDS training are highly valued and often preferred. Strong computer skills and fluency in English are essential, with Afrikaans or local languages being advantageous.

You will spend most of your day consulting with clients to plan and book domestic and international travel, including flights, accommodation, and car hire. You will also process payments, handle amendments and cancellations, and resolve travel disruptions. Administrative tasks like maintaining client records and preparing itineraries are also part of daily responsibilities.

Namibian workplaces generally value punctuality, professionalism, and strong customer service orientation. You can expect standard retail hours with possible weekend work, as travel agencies often operate when clients are available. Team collaboration is important, but individual sales targets and commission structures are common performance measures.

With experience, you can advance to senior consultant, team leader, or branch manager positions within larger agencies. Some professionals move into corporate travel management, tour operations, or start their own travel businesses. Specializing in niche markets like luxury travel or safari tourism can also open doors in Namibia's growing tourism sector.

Benefits vary by employer but commonly include annual leave as per Namibian labour law, and some larger companies offer medical aid and pension contributions. Travel perks such as discounted or complimentary familiarization trips are frequently available. Commission structures and performance bonuses are standard incentives in this industry.

Submit a professional CV highlighting any travel industry experience, customer service roles, and relevant certifications through email or online job portals. Employers prioritize candidates with proven sales ability, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. Demonstrating knowledge of Namibian tourism products and international destinations during interviews significantly strengthens your application.
