Debmarine Namibia requires the services of a Network Technician to provide support on hardware, software, and network diagnostics and troubleshooting in order to best facilitate a stable and reliable Information Technology network infrastructure for Namdeb and Debmarine Namibia.
The position is based in Oranjemund.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Demonstrates, installs, and commissions network systems and their routine upgrades as well as maintenance for all products, services, and systems within the area of responsibility.
Accumulates information on updates, known errors, changes in availability, new facilities, etc.; investigates and corrects if needed.
Partakes in standby duties in adherence to the related procedure.
Rectifies all issues that may arise (Hardware and Software) when on standby.
Monitors all network devices in the area of responsibility and act accordingly by replacing, repairing, restoring or deploying an alternative at own discretion.
Understands, designs and maintains WAN\LAN infrastructures (Hardware and Software)
Acknowledges, plans, and acts on calls (logged-in call logging system) within area of responsibility. Provides adequate and accurate documentation.
Researched documentation and or team knowledge to resolve allocated calls if and when needed.
Actively interacts with user to resolve call
Ensures rapid problem resolution by making use of a call logging system and escalation procedures.
Plans and documents all infrastructure changes brought about via the call logging system.
Initiating line reporting and escalating calls where necessary, within and outside DeBeers Group.
Researches documentation and or team knowledge how to better resolve network calls and ways of doing the job by thinking out of the box.
Documents findings in Call Logging System.
Follows up on resolved calls with end users.
Defines the correct equipment, get a cost centre from the user and make sure an order is placed in ERP system.
Rolls out new equipment to defied policies and standards.
Handles all calls within the agreed service level commitment deadlines (as agreed upon by the deferent departments within Namdeb and Debmarine Namibia), without sacrificing neither quality nor safety. Call handling includes decision making regarding how, where, when, what to do, which process to follow etc.
Reviews and adheres to all internal and external policies and procedures. This includes self and supervision of contractors doing work for either Namdeb or Debmarine within area of responsibility.
Provides technical advice on systems, products and services that are available to end users.
Provides and effective interface between users and other IT sup-port elements.
Assists user in making more effective use of the current systems available to them.
Interprets technical or procedural manuals on behalf of non-technical users.
Provides ad-hoc training in normal usage of systems products and services, providing information on the full range of capabilities.
Establishes and maintains sound working relationships with co-workers.
Regularly review with relationship supervisor/ peers/subordinates.
Discuss and set objectives to improve relationships with co-workers.
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Computer applications – MS Office
Information technology direction
ITIL and COBIT
Cisco Applications (LAN\WAN\Wi-Fi\MPLS)
Cabling: Fibre & copper (including the relevant tools)
Project management
Network design and typology
Analysing, learning and researching
Basic Server and desktop knowledge (VM Ware)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
National Diploma in IT
Degree in IT/ICT (Information and Communication Technology) will be an added advantage
N+ (International certification) one-year diploma will be an advantage
Code 8 Drivers License
International CCNA and/or other Cisco qualifications will be an advantage
4 years relevant network experience as a Junior Technician.
Monitoring tools (Preferable SolarWinds Orion and Cisco)
