THE POSITION: TECHNICAL BUYER
The incumbent will report to the Purchasing Superintendent and be accountable for:
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Legal, Safety, Health, and Environmental Compliance as well as promoting a safety
culture, systems, and design in the area of responsibility.
• Leading by example through living the company purpose and values.
• Research, evaluation, and purchase of services, supplies, and equipment.
• Coordinate Requests for Quotations (RFQ) process, including reviewing and providing
input into the RFQ documentation and specifications.
• Floating RFQs on the Purchasing platform (Taranawa), evaluation of RFQ
commercial offers, and validation of technical evaluations.
• Review and identify opportunities and provide input into contracting processes.
• Completing specifications for warehouse materials and non-stock materials.
• Provide technical justification and support for materials substitution or
replacement.
• Drive continuous improvement and cost savings through the RFQ processes.
• Issue Purchase Orders (POs) for technical services and equipment.
• Expedite purchase order deliveries and provide daily feedback to end users.
• Focus on delivering key performance indicators.
• Effective, proactive liaison with other departments as necessary to forecast and
plan procurements.
• Daily reporting on the status of Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• A Grade 12 Certificate with 23 points in 6 subjects.
• A Degree in Mechanical Engineering NQF Level 7 or a National Diploma in
Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 6).
• Degree holder should have a minimum of 3 years experience and Diploma holder
should have a minimum of 5 years of experience dealing with technical
specifications, procurement processes, or managing engineering projects in the
mining or similar environment.
• A CIPS Diploma (Level 4) and qualification in Project Management will be an
added advantage.
• Exposure to supply chain systems in a large multi-functional and complex multisite organization.
• Computer literate (Microsoft Office package) and sound knowledge of ERP
systems (i.e., IBM Maximo, Accpac) systems.
• Good communication, negotiation, and customer relations skills.
• A valid Code B driver’s license.
