TEACHER E/F – Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture

You typically need a Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant subject field plus a teaching qualification from a recognized Namibian institution such as UNAM or NUST. Registration with the Namibia Professional Teachers' Union (NANTU) or the Teachers' Union of Namibia (TUN) is usually required. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA).

You will prepare and deliver lessons following the Namibian curriculum, assess student progress through continuous assessment and examinations, and maintain records for the Ministry's reporting requirements. Additional duties often include supervising extracurricular activities, attending staff meetings, and participating in community engagement initiatives. You may also be required to teach in rural or underserved areas depending on the school's location.

The Ministry expects professionalism, punctuality, and adherence to the Public Service Act regulations, including dress codes and ethical standards. Hierarchical respect for school management and regional education officers is important, and teachers are expected to contribute to school development planning. Community involvement is highly valued, particularly in rural areas where schools serve as community hubs.

Teachers can advance through the salary scales from E to F and beyond based on experience, additional qualifications, and satisfactory performance appraisals. Opportunities exist to become Heads of Department, Deputy School Principals, or School Principals with further training and experience. Some teachers transition to regional education officer roles, curriculum development positions, or inspectorate posts within the Ministry.
