SUPERINTENDENT: RE-ADYVEMENT

Most employers require a relevant tertiary qualification in mining engineering, geology, or a related field, plus a valid Namibian blasting certificate and first aid certification. A minimum of 8-10 years' experience in underground or open-pit operations is usually expected, with supervisory experience essential.

Daily duties include overseeing production teams, ensuring compliance with the Namibian Minerals Act and safety regulations, coordinating shift schedules, and reporting to mine management. You will also troubleshoot operational issues and liaise with geologists and engineers to optimize extraction.

Safety is paramount due to strict regulations from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and there is strong emphasis on local employment and skills development under Namibian labour laws.

Progression typically leads to Mine Manager or Operations Manager positions, with some moving into regional or corporate roles. Professional registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia or similar bodies strengthens advancement prospects.
