SUPERINTENDENT: OCCUPATIONAL HYGIEN – Dundee precious metals
The incumbent will report to the Manager: Occupational Health and will be accountable for:
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Legal, Safety, Health and Environmental compliance as well as promoting a safety culture in the area of responsibility.
- Executing Dundee Precious Metals agenda regarding occupational hygiene and relevant aspects of community health.
- Supporting line management in understanding and imbedding occupational hygiene risk management and control principles and assist in defining priorities for risk control.
- Implementing health and hygiene policies, procedures, programs and processes, as well as forming part of the team that develops such policies, procedures, programs and processes.
- Assisting with campaigns, projects, reporting and other operational activities, as and when required.
- Provide training and awareness information on relevant Occupational Hygiene topics to all employees and contractors, as and when required.
- Ensuring contractor management requirements in terms of occupational hygiene are communicated to all stakeholders, and that systems are in place to enforce requirements and to evaluate compliance.
- Evaluating compliance to legal, corporate and international requirements, as well as governance systems on a scheduled basis, through monitoring and internal and external audits, with formal reporting and development of action plans to address gaps.
- Forming part of teams that conduct health, safety, environment, community and social risk assessments, as well as developing action plans, providing inputs and evaluating outcomes.
- Raising awareness amongst employees and contractors, on risk management, health issues, legal requirements and similar aspects relating to Occupational Health and Hygiene.
- Providing support and assistance to the Integrated Management System Coordinator with regards to improving and maintaining the Integrated Management System, as it relates to occupational hygiene.
- Drawing up of action plans to address gaps and shortcomings of the Integrated Management System, as identified from time to time.
- Provide inputs into Health and Hygiene Section budgets (including for projects) and managing costs within budgets.
- Conducting regular performance reviews of team members, contractors and service providers.
- Managing relationships with Management and internal staff.
- Maintaining professional registration in occupational hygiene and related fields.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Must hold a formal tertiary qualification (Degree/Diploma) in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, Health Sciences, Medical Sciences, Public Health or similar, from a recognized institution.
- Must be professionally registered as an Occupational Hygiene Technologist or Occupational Hygienist, through a recognized institution (SAIOH, AIHA, BOHS, etc.)
- At least six (6) years of working experience in an Occupational Hygiene or a closely related function, of which at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Occupational Hygiene processes, technologies, management aspects and assurance; Risk assessments; Occupational Hygiene Programme implementation; Data analysis and reporting; Occupational Health and Labour Legislation and best practices; Health and hygiene applications and systems; project management and stakeholder engagement.
- Good grasp of Community Health and Occupational Health concepts.
- Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Able to work under pressure, manage schedules and programs, and meet deadlines.
- Able to work within a multidisciplinary team, with business focused collaboration, strategic and system thinking and the ability to adhere to procedures.
- Computer literate, including knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Statistical Packages and Health and Safety Applications.
