VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEH) in collaboration with the NDC Partnership Support Unit and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is looking for a well-qualified candidate to fill in the following position: Strategic Advisor: NDC Coordination and Implementation
Roles and Responsibilities
The Strategic Advisor’s key responsibilities will be focused on fast-tracking the implementation of activities prioritized in the updated version of the first NDC (First NDC version 2) and its Implementation Strategy and Action Plan. The Strategic Advisor will also be responsible for tracking the overall support received from various implementing partners that are supporting the country’s climate agenda.
Qualifications and Experience
Interested candidates must have the following qualifications and experience to be considered for this position:
A Master’s degree in natural resource management, environmental policy, climate change, environmental economics, sustainable development, international development, public policy or public finance management or other relevant fields of study.
Five years of relevant experience in planning and implementing climate change-related projects, preferably in the field of environmental public policy with a focus on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and NDC-related processes.
Practical experience in climate change, adaptation/mitigation planning and implementation relating to Namibia’s NDC, including networks in Namibia amongst national climate experts.
At least five years coordinating in cross-sectoral multi-stakeholder platforms with experience presenting to high-level officials and technical experts on climate-related issues
At least five years of experience with project preparation and developing proposals for international climate finance mechanisms and programmes.
Duty Station
The Advisor will be based in Windhoek, Namibia at the MEFT under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director, Multilateral Environmental Agreement, but will also dedicate some time with the UNDP Country Office at the Sustainable Environment Management, Energy and Resilience (SEMER) Portfolio to fast-track the implementation of NDC-related activities.
