Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do I need to become a Storeman at Namib Mills?
Most employers in Namibia look for at least a Grade 10–12 certificate, with a certificate in Warehouse Management, Logistics, or Supply Chain being an advantage. A valid code B/CE driver's licence and forklift certification can strengthen your application. Practical experience in stock control or warehousing is often valued as much as formal qualifications.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Storeman?
A Storeman receives, inspects, and stores incoming goods, issues stock to production or departments, and maintains accurate records on systems like SAP or manual bin cards. Duties also include stock counting, housekeeping of the store area, reporting damaged goods, and ensuring safe stacking practices. In a milling environment like Namib Mills, you may handle raw materials such as maize, wheat, and packaging materials.
What benefits are typically offered for storeman roles in Namibia?
Common benefits include annual leave, sick leave per the Labour Act, medical aid contributions, and pension or provident fund membership. Some employers also offer housing allowances, transport allowances, or staff product discounts. Benefits vary by employer and are usually confirmed during the offer stage.
What career growth can I expect from a storeman position?
Storemen can progress to Senior Storeman, Stores Supervisor, Inventory Controller, or Warehouse Manager with experience and further study. Completing part-time courses through institutions like NIPAM or distance-learning logistics programmes improves promotion prospects. Internal promotions are common when you show accuracy, reliability, and leadership skills.
How do I apply for a Storeman position at Namib Mills?
Check the company's official careers page or reputable Namibian job portals such as Namibia Job Finder and local newspapers like The Namibian. Prepare a concise CV highlighting your warehouse experience, certifications, and references, plus certified copies of your ID and qualifications. Follow the application instructions exactly, as incomplete applications are often rejected.
What do employers in Namibia look for when hiring storemen?
Employers prioritise honesty and integrity, since storemen handle valuable stock, along with strong numeracy and record-keeping skills. They also value physical fitness, attention to detail, punctuality, and the ability to work under supervision or independently. Familiarity with stock-taking procedures and basic computer literacy gives candidates an edge.
