SHE Supervisor

Introduction The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Supervisor is responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving safety in the workplace. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring that legislation is adhered to and complied with to manage the planning, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing of the health, safety environmental and quality strategies. In addition, the SHE Officer is responsible for undertaking inspections, carrying out accident investigations, keeping records and writing safety case reports.
Specification 1. Strategic management skills
Ensure that all personnel are fully aware of SHE policies and procedures.
Be aware of new or existing safety legislation, approved codes of practice, guidance notes, and government reports.
- Occupational safety, health, and environment awareness
Promote guidance, advice, understanding and compliance across the facility with requirements in Manual Handling, PPE, DSE, Environmental, Waste Management and Health and Hygiene standards and objectives.
Sound knowledge and understanding of the impact of the failure of key systems and processes including loss of containment and threat to the environment.
- Performance management skills
Implement corporate safety training policy as applicable to the needs and requirements of the landfill, or at the transfer station or Material Recovery Facility.
Monitor minor and major modifications to ensure that risk assessments have been undertaken to the required standard.
- Management & leadership skills
Plan and ensure that audits are carried out to establish that the workforce meets current legislative requirements and its own SHE targets.
- Good communication and reporting skills
Plan, assist and participate in safety audits of contractors employed by the company and submit written reports.
Requirements
Grade 12
Relevant tertiary education in Health and Saftey will be an advantage.
At least 2 years’ experience in health and safety in an Operations Department
At least 3 years’ experience on supervisory level ISO accredited OR 2 years’ experience in this field Health and Safety qualification (SHE)
Valid drivers license
Planning and execution of duties
