Service Supervisor (Pumps & Valves)

Purpose of the role: Performs tasks associated with regards to the stripping, cleaning, and re-assembly of customer equipment. Applying contingency measures in accordance with instructions and standard of the client to minimize the turnaround time in the repair processes, guiding personnel on routine operational activities and supporting specialist personnel with the execution of repair and maintenance sequences. Maintain delivery of high standards of support and contribute to the profitability of the Service Division to the success of the Service business unit, in line with the objectives of the organisation.
Specification Key Accountabilities:
Operations
Ensure preparation of job cards, in-process and completion activities during stripping, inspection & repair works, by:
Randomly checking, advising fitters, assistants on best methods for stripping, inspecting, and assembling of standard pumps to reduce damage and excessive costs to customers and workshop
Communicating with support personnel, detailing activities, and planning of workshop load in collaboration with the workshop manager on a regular basis
Inspection of documentation in collaboration with the inspector & fitter prior to handing over to the workshop manager
Day to day control of service and repairs activities
Lead from the front, hands-on
Develop and maintain sound working relationships with existing clientele and develop new ones
Ensure products are repaired and service and returned in a good condition to clients
All other aftermarket activities as designated from time to time
Staff
Supervises outcomes and provides guidance on the interpretation of instructions/requirements and procedures by:
Interacting with support personnel and clarifying work methods, repair methods and any other requirements
Correcting deviations through the provision of “on the job” demonstration of activities and applications
Attending to disciplinary/conflict issues and counselling personnel to correct/adjust behaviour prior to referring to the immediate superior for the execution of laid down disciplinary procedures
Control of service staff and facilities
Training/ mentoring of service staff
Implement existing Strategies and protocols
Health and Safety
Support of the appointed SHEA representatives in related issues by:
Strip, repair, and cleaning processes are followed as per the policies of health, safety & environmental affairs policy.
Outside working areas are kept clean and organised to an acceptable standard.
Fitter working stations are always kept clean to an acceptable standard.
Ensure safe working procedures are applied to all working processes and the wearing of PPE is enforced in the applicable areas.
Ensure all tools including personal tools are inspected monthly and kept in good working condition to reduce time on jobs and that records are kept.
Ensuring that hazardous and harmful materials are disposed of according to regulations.
Upkeep all OHASA requirements at clients’ service premises
Administration
Attends to the completion of procedural forms and undertakes general maintenance routine housekeeping activities, by:
Ensuring that all pumps are cleaned/de-contaminated in the prescribed area.
Inspecting and servicing specific equipment, cleaning air filters, replacing fuel and/or oils.
Inspecting lifting equipment on a weekly basis in collaboration with appointed health & safety representatives.
Placing and stacking tools/equipment in allocated positions according to size and type references.
Cleaning the workshop, instructing assistants to remove debris or grit using handheld tools (pressurized cleaning systems, spades, etc.).
Maintain files/ documents, systems and reports
Requirements Key Skills Required:
Minimum Technical Diploma/ Certificate or Qualified Mechanical Artisan
Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience on pump maintenance repair, rotating equipment, and aftermarket sales
Technical proficiency on repair procedures, machining applications, pump system applications, hydraulics, fault finding and root cause analysis, maintenance, and reporting
