How to Apply
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and certifications are typically required for a Senior Surveyor role in Namibia?
A Bachelor's degree in Surveying or Geomatics from a recognized institution like NUST is usually required. Professional registration with the Namibia Professional Land Surveyors' Council is essential. Additional certifications in GIS, CAD software, or specialized surveying methods strengthen candidacy.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Senior Surveyor in Namibia?
Senior Surveyors lead field teams conducting topographic, boundary, and construction surveys across diverse Namibian terrain including mining and rural areas. They verify data accuracy, prepare technical reports, and ensure compliance with national surveying standards. Mentoring junior staff and liaising with government departments like the Ministry of Land Reform are also key duties.
How does workplace culture and employer expectations differ for surveyors in Namibia compared to other countries?
Namibian employers value flexibility due to remote site locations and extreme weather conditions affecting fieldwork schedules. Hierarchical respect is important, with senior surveyors expected to demonstrate leadership while maintaining practical field presence. Personal relationships and community engagement matter, especially when conducting surveys in communal or conservancy lands.
What career progression opportunities exist for Senior Surveyors in Namibia?
Progression typically moves to Principal Surveyor, Survey Manager, or specialized roles in mining, marine, or cadastral surveying. Some transition into private practice or consulting, particularly in Windhoek's growing property market. International exposure through regional projects in SADC countries is increasingly common for experienced professionals.
What benefits are standard for Senior Surveyor positions with Namibian employers?
Benefits usually include medical aid coverage, pension contributions often through Namfisa-regulated funds, and annual leave of 20-25 days. Field-based roles frequently provide subsistence allowances, transport, and accommodation when working remotely. Mining and large engineering firms tend to offer more comprehensive packages than government or small private practices.
What should I emphasize when applying for Senior Surveyor roles in Namibia, and how does the application process typically work?
Highlight your PLSC registration status, experience with Namibian cadastral systems, and proven team leadership in challenging environments. Applications usually require a detailed CV, certified qualifications, and references submitted directly to employers or through recruitment agencies. Practical assessments or technical interviews testing local regulations knowledge are common in the selection process.
