REPORTS TO: CLINIC MANAGER
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Registered Nurse will report to the Clinic Manager at ONE. This position will require clinical supervision of the youth clinic and junior staff members. The incumbent will act as health services coordinator of the adolescent sexual health and awareness programme (SHAP). In addition, the incumbent is mandated to provide quality comprehensive adolescent youth-friendly health services
that are appropriate to the needs of adolescents and youth of all genders.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE
» At least eight years of working as a Registered Nurse or higher in PHC/youth-friendly clinics or programs;
» Advanced practical experience in midwifery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MANAGERIAL & ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
» Management of clinic activities including planning and implementation, monitoring and
evaluation of clinic activities;
» Implement good quality of care and quality assurance activities including infection control
and prevention (IPC);
» Keep medical records and files in an orderly, accurate, and professional manner;
» Participate in community sensitization and mobilization activities, including outreach
services;
» Maintain staff duty rooster, timesheets and leave schedules and communicate these to head office;
» Compile daily/weekly/monthly activity and service reports and provide regular feedback and
updates to the head office;
» Collaborate with local stakeholders, clinics, and district hospitals on referral processes and
ensure clients are linked to appropriate care;
» Update ONE stock systems and ensure timely order of supplies and commodities;
» Represent ONE at relevant stakeholder engagements.
CLINICAL COMPETENCIES
» Provide high-quality HIV clinical care and ART to eligible patients, in the adolescent and youth
friendly clinic including sexual reproductive health services according to the MoHSS and
WHO guidelines;
» Provision of information, treatment, care & support to young people on HIV, family planning,
STIs, antenatal care, cervical cancer prevention, pregnancy test, TB, COVID-19, nutrition,
adherence to ART, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV;
» Support integration of HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health activities including family
planning, STI treatment, and management of non-communicable diseases for patients with
HIV;
» Responding to pandemics such as COVID-19 by screening, vaccination, referral;
» Screening and information sharing for reproductive cancers (breast, cervical, ovarian, vaginal & prostate);
» Provision of post-rape care, emergency contraceptives, and medication such as PrEP and
PEP;
» Request appropriate laboratory and clinical investigations, interpret results, and provide
appropriate care;
» Collaborate and refer clients to Social Workers on cases of gender-based violence (GBV)or
intimate partner violence (IPV);
» Management and referral of special cases including interpersonal violence;
» Facilitate awareness and community engagement around early sexual debuts, teenage
pregnancy, infanticide, and other SRH issues;
» Provision of male-specific programs on health, physical and emotional development;
» Coordinate/facilitate training on life skills and information sharing for early adolescents (10- 13) years old;
» Facilitate frank and open conversations about sex to destigmatize, and demystify responsible
access to services and information to enable informed decision-making;
» Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
PREFERRED SKILLS
» Experience working in a mobile or youth-friendly clinic/setting;
» Strong oral and written communications skills in English;
» Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and communication skills, with
ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a demanding environment;
» Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
» Ability to analyze and utilize site-generated data for decision-making;
» Youth friendliness and non-judgemental attitude towards young people;
» Exercise ethical practices, respectful conduct, and behaviour towards internal and external
stakeholders, and equitable treatment of others in all activities.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
» Degree in Nursing/Equivalent Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery Science;
» Postgraduate qualification in nursing management, public health, etc.;
» Certificate in Advanced Midwifery or relevant experience;
» NimART (Nurse Initiated Management of ART) Certificate;
» Certificate in Theatre Technique;
» Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC);
Preferred:
» Certified HIV Rapid Tester ;
» VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) Trained and or pap smear screening;
» Valid registration with the Health Professions Council in Namibia.
