You must hold a Bachelor of Nursing Science or equivalent from a recognized institution and be registered with the Namibia Health Professions Council. Advanced certifications in areas like critical care, midwifery, or trauma are often preferred. At least 5-7 years of clinical experience with some supervisory exposure is typically expected.

You will supervise junior nursing staff, coordinate patient care across wards, and ensure compliance with Ministry of Health protocols. Duties include clinical assessments, mentoring students, managing stock and supplies, and participating in quality improvement committees. You may also deputize for the Nurse Manager during absences.

Namibian public health facilities follow a clear hierarchical structure where senior nurses command respect and are expected to model professionalism. Punctuality, deference to medical officers, and adherence to bureaucratic procedures are highly valued. Private sector settings may offer more flexibility but still emphasize teamwork and patient-centered care.

With additional qualifications, you can advance to Nurse Manager, Matron, or specialized clinical roles like Nurse Specialist or Educator. Pursuing a Master's in Nursing or Health Administration opens doors to regional or national health leadership positions. Some senior nurses transition into academia or policy advisory roles within the Ministry of Health.

Public sector roles through the Public Service Commission include pension contributions, medical aid subsidies, and generous annual leave of 30 days or more. Housing allowances and overtime pay may apply depending on the facility location. Private employers vary in benefits packages, so always verify specifics during recruitment.
