Senior Officer: Server and Database | Swakop Uranium
Opportunity | Duty Description
~~MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
Ensure stability, integrity and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. Monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems, apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. Serves as Mentor and provide guidance to the Client Services Officers.
Key Performance Areas:
- Implements all key policies and procedures related to server and database systems, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
- Implements the server and database specifications, by conferring with users, analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements.
- Executes server administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.
- Plans and executes the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of server and database equipment.
- Designs, configures, and tests computer hardware, server and database software and operating system software.
- Monitors the servers and database performance, by evaluating factors including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency.
- Sets-up and coordinates server and database systems’ security, internal controls and governance.
- Assigns server and database access, monitors, controls, and evaluates protocols.
- Continuously checks for systems errors and corrects potential server and database security threats.
- Coordinates backups and protects server, databases, and information as per policy and procedures.
- Coordinates and performs troubleshooting, systems backups, archiving, and disaster recovery and provides expert support when necessary.
- Defines updates and maintenance revision cycles.
- Collaborates with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of server and databases, communication systems, software programs and applications.
- Coordinates the implementation of maintenance contracts.
- Maintains and ensures that server and database hardware and communication systems meet functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
- Performs routine server and database start-up and shutdown procedures, and maintains control records.
- Diagnoses server and database problems, performs required software/firmware updates and replaces defective components.
- Coordinates with external suppliers for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.
- Ensures the creation and maintenance of all server and database documentation, including system and user manuals, license agreements, modifications and upgrades.
- Ensures all maintenance procedures are documented, authorized and implemented.
Opportunity | Duty Requirement(s)
~~Requirements and experience:
- B Com/BSc (Technical) degree or related formal qualification in Information Technology or Computer Science or
- For candidates who do not have BCom.Bsc degree.
- Relevant internationally accredited IT Certifications in Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE 2000/2003/2012/2016) /Microsoft Certified IT professional (MCITP Enterprise Administrator 2008/2012/2016).
- VMware Certified Data Centre Professional in an Enterprise Data Center environment and well versed in virtualization technologies in Windows and Unix/Linux platforms/Experience in working with storage appliances (NetApp, HP, EMC or IBM), 10 years and above experience implementing, maintaining and supporting IT enterprise infrastructures including Disaster recovery sites.
- Basic Database administration and experience with Microsoft SQL, IBM-DB2 or Oracle-DB.
- At least 5 years’ experience in server and database environment.
- Understanding of server/storage maintenance and security experience.
- Proven experience in Planning and implementation of server and database systems.
- Experience in monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all networked software and associated Server and systems Appliances operating systems.
- Able to apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
- Code BE Drivers’ License
