The incumbent will report to the Technical Director and be accountable for:

SENIOR METALLURGIST ANCILLARIES

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Legal, Safety, Health and Environmental compliance as well as promoting a safety
culture in the area of responsibility.
• Upkeep of the Slag Mill and Flotation Plant, Sulphuric Acid Plant and Materials
Handling section.
• Accountable for the optimization of the metallurgical processes including
production, recovery, reagents and consumptions.
• Provide technical input into the operation of the processing plants.
• Develop and manage scopes of work for metallurgical test work programs.
• Support the site production department to ensure key objectives are identified and
sustained.
• Undertake and lead flotation test work, ore characterization and comminution
improvement projects.
• Plan alterations to optimize throughput and/or recovery rates whilst identifying
challenges that may be encountered and develop plans to minimize interruptions
to production.
• Monitor, analyze, control and report on process performance indicators (including
in-plant sampling and results).
• Conduct troubleshooting and detailed data analysis to identify root causes and
corrective actions for poor plant performance.
• Coordinate surveys, plant field trials and metallurgical test-work to evaluate circuit
performance and recommend ways of improving performance.
• Define and implement the metallurgical process strategies associated with
sections.

• Guide and train area personnel on process control methodology in order to assist
process control improvement efforts.
• Work with team to implement process control models, strategies, and other
methods for ensuring quality output.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering – Metallurgical, Chemical or other
relevant qualification.
• A minimum of ten (10) years working experience in large, complex metallurgical
process operations.
• Direct experience in plant technical metallurgist and engineering roles with
specific experience in base metal crushing, milling, flotation, smelting and acid
plants.
• In-depth knowledge of copper smelting using Ausmelt, Pierce Smith Converters
and Acid Plant.
• Experience in process control systems, process information database (OsiSoft PI
software) and metallurgical optimization.
• Affinity to supervise technical research, direct and train metallurgical engineers
and technicians.
• Accustomed to carrying out advanced calculations and possess ability to analyze
and understand highly complex statistical metallurgical data.
• Strong understanding of complex metallurgical information, process improvement
and control strategies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to assemble data
and provide clear and accurate operational performance reports in both an upward
and downward direction.
• Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
• Be diligent and thorough in approach.
• Be enthusiastic and pro-active in manner.
• Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
• The ability to professionally interact with all stakeholders in a multi-cultural
environment.
