Senior Engineer: Mining Technical
Opportunity | Duty Description
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide technical expertise in drilling, load and haul, blasting and Contractors management in order to optimize efficiencies, safety and productivity through technical reviews, timely reports and coordination of improvement projects.
Key Performance Areas:
- Monitors and reviews all blasts (fragmentation, powder factor, final wall control) and interprets vibration analysis and develops a controlled blasting programme to prevent damages to infrastructure.
- Reviews and approves all design drilling parameters e.g. blasthole diameters, sub-drill, angled holes, drill pattern and continually researches new methods to improving these, in collaboration or consultation with the Blasting Contractor.
- Control drilling GET inventory, tracking and conduct GET tests.
- Monitors and captures the performance of the blasthole drills and recommends techniques required to improve productivity.
- Reviews all blasts and prepares monthly technical reviews and reports on drilling and blasting results, performance and quality (QA/QC).
- Evaluates potential performance of various explosives and assesses applicability to mining operations.
- Monitors the performance of load and haul operation and recommend techniques required to improve productivity.
- Captures and analyses production results and prepares relevant reports accordingly.
- Advising on Mining Contractors.
- Develops and initiates continuous improvement projects to achieve mining and processing efficiency.
Opportunity | Duty Requirement(s)
Requirements and experience:
- B Sc. Eng with a minimum of 5 years’ experience preferably in a large open pit Mining environment of which 3 years should have been in a supervisory capacity, OR
- Tech in Mining Engineering with a minimum of 7 years’ experience preferably in a large open pit Mining environment of which 5 years should have been in a supervisory capacity.
- Relevant Post Graduate Studies will be an added advantage.
- Blasting Certificate.
- Registration with Engineering Council of Namibia, will be an advantage.
- Excellent understanding of drilling and blasting techniques in large hard rock open pit mining operations.
- Exposure in Drilling & Blasting or Load and Haul.
- Contract management experience is a distinct advantage.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Exposure to multi-national, ethnic and cultural environment.
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
