THE POSITION:
The incumbent will report to the Safety Manager and be accountable for:
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Enforcing Safety, Health and Environmental (HSE) compliance to applicable
legislations, regulations, directives, company policies and procedures.
• Coordinating HSE meetings and providing information and statistics to line
management, employees, contractors on the HSE performance of all operations.
• Formulating activities and plans for the implementation of safety objectives, strategies
for continuous improvement.
• Ensuring that systems are in place to measure, prevent and mitigate safety risks through
continuous support and improvement of safety programs.
• Implementing critical controls by advising relevant departments on necessary actions to
rectify deviations and non-compliances.
• Advising and consulting with employees and contractors on safety and health practices,
development and monitoring programs through high levels of safety competency.
• Effectively co-ordinating safety section, effectively supporting, coaching and resourcing
utilization and management.
• Analysing and evaluating safety data and information, on exposures and risks to
establish frequency and severity of losses to ensure compliance to safety factors and
legislations.
• Effecting Stakeholders Engagement and Communication.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• A pass in Grade 12 with a minimum of 23 points.
• A National/Higher Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
• A Minimum of 3 years mining or heavy industry work experience is mandatory.
• Must have undergone the following training: Risk Management; SAMTRAC, Safety Auditing, ISO 45001 and Safety Management systems.
• A Minimum of five (5) years Occupational Safety fieldwork experience of which 3 should have been in a supervisory capacity.
• Good knowledge in the Microsoft Office package with good PowerPoint Presentation and Microsoft Excel skills.
• A valid Code B drivers’ license.
• Sound leadership, supervisory and management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, attention to detail, accuracy, ability to meet deadlines.
• Assertiveness, flexibility with good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong knowledge of strategic effectiveness, managing change, commercial focus, operational delivery, leading people, leading self and living the company values and HSE stewardship.
