EME has an exemplary record in respect of its fishing operations as well as its focus on socio-economic investment and development, both regionally and nationally. We are looking to fill the following vacancy:

Purpose of the role: The primary function of the radio officer is to receive, record and update time, signals, check weather reports and carrying out and receiving all the information at the ship for the smooth sailing of the ship and its vessels.   

Minimum role requirements & experience

• • Minimum requirements – GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate and a technical qualification in acoustic Navigation and Fishing Electronic equipment.
•  Five (5) years sea-going experience as acoustics operator
• • Experience in the horse mackerel industry and/or on horse mackerel midwater trawlers (added advantage
• • Operate radio equipment to communicate with ships
• • Receive weather and navigational reports and warning
• • Coordinate radio-related aspects
• • Examine and operate new equipment prior to installation
• • Operate and service acoustic equipment
• • Repair radio equipment as necessary, using electronic testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools
• • Review applicable regulations regarding radio communications, and report violations.
• Send, receive, and interpret coded messages.
• • Monitor emergency frequencies to detect distress calls
