ROLE SUMMARY:
The Project Engineer: Automation and Instrumentation will be dedicated to projects and housed
within the PMO section but with a dotted discipline reporting line to the Superintendent:
Automation and Instrumentation. This is a hand-on specialist role and not a leadership role
accountable for the development and documentation of project Automation and Instrumentation
requirements, design, integration and execution using in-house or external resources, or a
combination based on the requirements of each project. This position is available as a FixedTerm for 24 months in the D-lower level commensurate with the skills and experience of the
successful candidate.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Project Engineer: Automation & Instrumentation will report to the Senior Project Engineer:
PMO and be accountable for:
• Ensuring compliance with legal and DPM Tsumeb’s health and safety and environmental
standards and requirements in area of responsibility and providing safety leadership and
the promotion of a safety culture.
• Providing technical leadership and ensuring compliance with the policies and rules of the
company and leading by example by living the company’s values and purpose of the
company; Ensuring that projects are executed professionally and expeditiously with laser
focus on project delivery and the timeous realization of the benefits for which the specific
the project was conceived in the areas of safety, health, environment, production, cost
reduction or another business objective.
• Continuing to enhance the PMO as a center of project management excellence and the
custodian of project management best practices at DPMT and ready to support all project
managers across the organization; fully cognizant that the Project Management System
is but one system in an ecosystem of systems.
• The development of human potential, collaborating and working with colleagues
(teamwork) and stakeholders to achieve the objectives of the company.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• A recognized B.Tech degree or S4 or N6 or T3 or equivalent qualification in
Instrumentation & Electrical with specialization in automation at NQF level 7 or 8.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the appropriate discipline with the Engineering
Council of Namibia
• Minimum experience requirements – candidates with more relevant experience may have
an added advantage:
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant post-graduate process control experience in an industrial
production environment and advanced hands-on knowledge and skills of general
instrumentation, Yokogawa DCS, Profibus protocols, and fiber optic networks coupled with
strong project management skills backed up by a relevant PM accreditation.
• A minimum of 5 years of project management experience is required, and project
management accreditation will be an advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Project and the relevant discipline CAD, planning, and estimating
software.
• In-depth knowledge of the engineering and construction specifications, standards, and
codes for the relevant discipline.
• Cost & budget management systems, safety health and environmental management
systems, procurement, and inventory management systems, human resources
management systems, etc.
• Code B Driver’s License.
• Microsoft Office 360 suite,
