PERMANENT TEACHING POST – Ohangwena Regional Council

You must hold a Bachelor's degree in Education or a subject‑specific degree plus a teaching certificate from the Namibia Institute of Education (NIE). Registration with the Namibia Teachers' Council and a valid teaching licence are mandatory. Prior experience in primary or secondary education is preferred.

Daily tasks include preparing lesson plans, delivering classroom instruction, assessing student progress, and maintaining attendance records. Teachers also participate in staff meetings, contribute to curriculum development, and engage with parents during school events. They may supervise extracurricular activities and support school administration.

Namibia values punctuality, respect for hierarchy, and community involvement; teachers are expected to be role models and often participate in local cultural events. Work hours typically align with the school calendar, and there is a strong emphasis on collaborative decision‑making within schools. Compared to some countries, there may be fewer resources, so teachers often improvise materials.

Teachers can advance to senior teacher, head of department, or administrative roles such as deputy principal. Continuous professional development and additional qualifications, like a master's degree, can open opportunities for higher positions. Some teachers also move into district education management or policy roles.

Permanent teachers receive annual leave, sick leave, and public holidays in line with Namibian labour law. Many schools provide medical aid contributions and pension contributions through the National Pension Scheme. Additional benefits may include professional development allowances and occasional school trips.
