Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and certifications are required to apply for the permanent teaching post in Social Studies and English at Petrus Progress Heita Primary School?
You need a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Social Studies or English, or an equivalent degree, and a valid teaching certificate issued by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA). A minimum of two years of teaching experience is often preferred, though some schools consider strong academic credentials for new graduates. Proof of a clean criminal record and a health clearance are also mandatory.
What does a typical day look like for a teacher in grades 4 to 7 at this school?
Daily tasks include preparing lesson plans aligned with the Namibian curriculum, delivering engaging lessons, and assessing student progress through quizzes and projects. Teachers also manage classroom behavior, maintain attendance records, and collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary activities. After school, many teachers supervise extracurricular clubs or provide additional tutoring to students who need extra support.
How is the work culture and what are the expectations for teachers in Namibia?
Teachers are expected to arrive on time, demonstrate professionalism, and respect the school hierarchy, which includes the principal and senior teachers. Collaboration is valued; staff meetings and professional development sessions are common. Community involvement, such as attending local events or parent-teacher conferences, is also encouraged to strengthen school‑family ties.
What career progression opportunities exist for teachers in this role?
Experienced teachers can advance to senior teacher, head of department, or assistant principal positions, depending on performance and additional qualifications. Many educators pursue further studies, such as a Master’s in Education, to qualify for higher administrative roles. Continuous professional development and participation in national teaching workshops also support upward mobility.
What benefits can I expect as a permanent teacher in Namibia?
Permanent teachers typically receive annual leave, sick leave, and public holidays in line with Namibian labor laws. Many schools offer medical aid contributions, pension scheme participation, and professional development allowances. Some institutions also provide housing assistance or transport subsidies, especially in rural or remote areas.
How do I apply for this teaching position and what does the selection process involve?
Submit a detailed CV, cover letter, copies of your degree and teaching certificate, and a recent reference letter to the school’s HR department or the Ministry of Education’s online portal. The selection process usually includes a written test, a teaching demonstration, and a panel interview with senior staff. Successful candidates may also undergo a background check before receiving a formal offer.
