Motorman – Africa Personnel Services

The Motorman ensures that rig equipment and systems that power the rig and drilling activities
are operating and functioning properly (main engines, generators, SCR / VFD house, electrical
system, air system, hydraulic system). This includes routine maintenance and may execute minor
repair work on equipment. In addition, to off-loading materials and assisting in rig up and rig
down. The Motorman works closely with and oversees Floorhands on the rig floor, assists the
Derrickhand as needed, and assists the Driller in day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

1. Adhere to Company policies, guidelines, and work requirements;
2. Regularly inspect, maintain, and repair generators, equipment, and SCR or VFD house;
3. Responsible for hydraulic and electrical systems and equipment;
4. Ensure that all preventative maintenance is performed on all equipment and that all log
   sheets and maintenance sheets are filled out correctly and are up to date on all required
   equipment;
5. Responsible for daily inspection of the following: working order of all main engines, air
   compressors and air system, electrical equipment, BOP and accumulator, engine radiators,
   circulating water pumps, oil transfer pumps, and the running order and flow down of the
   boiler;
6. Inspect main engines every tour for proper working order by checking the following: oil
   level, coolant, gauges, possible oil leaks, noise and vibrations, and changing oil as needed;
7. Regularly check rig and equipment for problems and safety issues on an ongoing basis;
8. Listen for unusual noises that signify equipment and machinery problems;
9. Keep a daily log of maintenance and repair activities;
10. In charge of all lock-out/tag-out of breakers;
11. Provide instructions, train, and oversee Floorhands during drilling activities;
12. Lift and place slips weighing approximately 150 pounds with another person occasionally
    during the tour work shift;
13. Independently use heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools;
14. Use forklift to off-load and move materials;
15. Follows instructions from the Assistant Driller / Driller;
16. Assist Derrickhand with mixing chemicals and other mud maintenance as needed;
17. Assist in rig moves: help with rig-up / rig-down, nipple up and down blowout preventers,
    assist with general assembly and maintenance and help prepare the new location;
18. Assist with inspecting, slipping, and cutting drilling line;
19. General upkeep of the rig and drilling floor; includes regular sweeping, shoveling, cleaning,
    painting, washing of equipment, and related housekeeping duties;
20. Support other crew members as needed, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and
    other additional tasks as assigned;
21. Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around the work environment with
    many moving objects;
22. Wear required PPE and inspect safety equipment and PPE for wear and replace as needed;

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years working experience in the capacity of a motorman or corresponding position on an offshore unit;
• Mechanical background with knowledge about diesel engines;
• Namibian Citizen (certificate of domicile/ permanent residence will be accepted);
• Computer literate;
• Conversant with safety management principles;
• Conversant with quality management principles;
