MECHANICAL FOREMAN
Opportunity | Duty Description
The AMV3 requires the services of a Mechanical Foreman. The primary purpose of the job is to provide effective support to the vessel in terms of maintenance and supervision to the maintenance team.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Forms key link between artisans and the Vessel Management.
- Monitors the maintenance of equipment and machinery on the vessel according to the planned maintenance schedules.
- Monitors all subordinates’ performance, output and quality of work to ensure compliance to set standards by conducting frequent over inspections, checking completed job card reports, investigating variances and instituting corrective action where necessary.
- Determine daily/weekly maintenance, priorities and allocating labour to appropriate/critical areas in conjunction with the Vessel Planner
- Ensuring stock items, spares and materials are readily available through planning in advance.
- Formulate and implements Standard operating procedures for relevant equipment.
- Ensures that his team performs efficiently and cost effectively.
- Compile condition assessment reports of relevant equipment where necessary.
- Identify critical pares holding requirements for relevant equipment on-board
- Assist with job costs and time estimates where necessary.
- Responsible for Safety Management within his team, by adhering to and promoting Company policies and procedures relating to health, safety, security and environmental issues.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
- Good communication skills in all levels within the Company.
- Be a methodical and systematic worker, comfortable in an office environment as well as in a workshop and plant environment.
- Must have a pro-active problem solving approach in the anticipation of problem areas and taking corrective actions to eliminate deviations.
- Be goal orientated, stable, show integrity and be able to make decisions under pressure:
- Effective leadership skills and experience in handling IR related problems.
- Be an effective team player
Added Advantages | Special Requirement(s)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- N4 and equivalent
- Recognised Trade Diploma with 4 technical theoretical subjects (N3 level)
- Further training as Hydraulic Technician/Fitter will be an advantage
- A minimum of 6 years’ experience after trade diploma as an artisan in a relevant field
- A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
- Exposure to the Marine Mining Environment will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of SAP will be an added advantage
The incumbent will be required to spend time at sea followed by equal amount of days ashore
