JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for the on-going management and implementation of NTB’s marketing activities in Namibia, in accordance with the overall national marketing strategy. A key player in the development of the NTB marketing strategy, supporting the Head of Marketing by providing market insights and a regional and domestic perspective into the overall strategy. Also acts as the coordinator of the operations at the Head office.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Works with the Head of Marketing to define the Namibian marketing strategy and the marketing sub-strategies for support services offered
- Bases the strategy on the segments with the greatest potential for Namibia ensuring that there is a market-product fit
- Develops and implements annual work plans for Namibia and the rest of the world source markets where NTB does not have a foreign office or a Representative Agency
- Coordinates and aligns activities to achieve Namibian objectives
- Ensures that the required expertise to deliver the business plan is in place and is proactive in sharing best practice with other NTB markets
- Formulates a plan to ensure that any shortfall of expertise required to deliver the business plan and strategy is acquired either through training, out-sourcing, or consultation with other departments
- Develops, implements and manages a B2B Destination Marketing Public Relations programme for Namibia
- Provides the media with relevant content (eg. photos, film segments)
- Integrates the Namibia Destination Brand guidelines into all activities
- Ensures that all destination brand guidelines are understood by staff and adhered to in all activities
- Ensures that only correctly branded images are used in all marketing activities
- Oversees the NTB website on a continuous basis and monitors the regular upload of fresh and topical stories to ensure the website is dynamic, relevant and attractive
- Oversees responsibility for the trade and media database and encourages web users to register
- Manages the needs of all NTB offices to provide quarterly e-newsletters to their country databases
- Compiles a monthly statistics analysis, showing the use of the site in each marketDefines and identifies Key Accounts in both trade and media segments of significance in the market and with high potential for Namibia
- Represents NTB for the MICE segment in identified source markets
- Targets Key Account product managers and decision-makers in identified source markets to achieve Business Development and acquisition of partnerships for Joint Marketing and PR
- Manages and maintains the Key Accounts and be the NTB contact and representative in planning of marketing and PR activities with these market players
- Encourages partnership activity with the travel industry in Namibia and rest of the world
- Ensures that there are suitable joint marketing and trade opportunities and that these are advertised timeously
- Keeps joint marketing and trade opportunities updated on an ongoing basis and posted on the NTB corporate website
- Screens and recommends ideas, activities and project proposals from both NTB staff and external stakeholders to Head of Marketing or Exco where appropriate
- Reports and compiles regular market intelligence covering the latest market developments and trends, both consumer and travel trade
- Ensures that the implications for the Namibian travel trade are publicised
- Conducts benchmarking exercises for Namibia and identified source markets
- Delivers an annual, updated market profile for Namibia as a background to the annual business plan
- Encourages the distribution of marketing case studies between all markets and Head Office so that best practice can be achieved
- Assist in developing and launching domestic tourism strategy and marketing campaigns
- Submits annual budget proposals to the Head of Marketing for approval
- Formulates, executes and controls the budget as directed by the financial policies
- Manages the budget for Namibia effectively by employing sound financial management techniques
- Controls expenditure of the operational budget through appropriate monitoring, analysis, maintenance and supervision of expenditure against the agreed budget and work plan
- Monitors all expenditure and prepares reports within set deadlines
- Writes procurements submissions
- Initiates the procurement of assets, goods and services for the department, complying with NTB’s procurement rules and procedures
- Complies with all set NTB policies, procedures and regulations
- Carries out ad hoc duties as required
- Recommends for approval of S&T, travel, leave, etc. of the subordinates to Head of Marketing
- Maintains records of operations to ensure targets and deadlines are met as agreed within the department and with the Head of Marketing
- Implements operational procedures to maintain a consistent work flow in and out of the department
- Allocates and coordinates tasks and responsibilities to direct subordinates
- Provides final recommendation for leave applications, and ensures that there are no overlaps
- Ensures that subordinates are productive and busy by conducting ad hoc assessments and providing relevant guidelines
- Takes appropriate measures to ensure that the stipulations of disciplinary and grievance procedures are adhered to by the subordinates
- Responsible for the performance appraisals of subordinates and provides feedback on the extent to which objectives and targets have been met
- Identifies training and development needs and provides relevant coaching and mentoring where relevant
- Updates job descriptions where required
- Compiles monthly reports regarding the activities of the section
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Driver’s license is mandatory
- Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) or similar qualification in Tourism, Hospitality, Marketing, Public Relations, Media, Journalism or Business Studies.
- Minimum 5 years in a management position, preferably in destination marketing and / or managing a tourist office or representation.
- Preferably digital marketing and CRM experience.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Excellent knowledge of the Namibian tourism industry and knowledge of the tourism product in the region;
- Knowledge of Adobe suite;
- Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint;
- Basic Microsoft Excel and Word.

REMUNERATION:
Namibia Tourism Board offers a market-related total cost to company package based on work experience and qualifications. The package includes retirement and medical aid benefits.
